Salon 4
Well I have decided to stop taking pictures of the salon for if you don't come, you miss out. It was really, really great. Merion Estes brought new works on paper and ran us through her site and talked about her work which was really special to have someone of her talent, and history do our humble salon. We had some amazing mandolin playing which stole the show. Eric Trine parked the s.w.a.t. van out front and set up a whole installation inside the van and out into the yard which was bitchin'. Aimee Bender read a short story that she had just finished which was really well written and funny as are all her short stories (I suggest you spring the $15ish for her book of short stories on amazon.com). And the Rio Bravo played a really good set of rock tunes. I run out of awesome, terrific, special, super, type words but the 70ish people that were there can vouch for how the salon went. It continues to be a very generous and special event and more people come and it gets better as we go. Come in July.

Drawing fest at Eric's studio

On Wednesday we all got together with 3 overhead projectors, a ton of transperencies and 3 5' x 5' panels and got loose on some picture making. We are making life size coloring books so essentially we do the outlining and the folks will color them in. The compositions turned out awesomally and my favorite image is Taylor's dinosaur (can't see it in these pictures) and Taylor's little guy stroking my Jesus beard. We drank yard beer, smoked, and Dan and I told glasses stories. Good times. It's all for the event shown in the flier below. Vern recorded it all on 8mm so I'll post that later.

Venice art auction
So dudes, another art auction. Venice......Ed Ruscha, my man Baldessari, some lower level douche bags, and myself, in an art giveaway. I did OCMA's this year as well, Heilmann, Rauschenberg, Opie, et. all. and that felt good, but I give away more art than I sell. Maybe dems' the breaks for a junior. Stoked, maybe...
Merion Estes is doing the next salon which rules (Steve Roden said probably to July which would also rule). I have much to learn as I make much. Eric Trine is showing his paintings in his sweeeeet newly purchased mobile s.w.a.t. van gallery.

New series is afoot
I am wrapping up a series of new paintings built on and around architecture that I will explain as I post more examples. But I am stoked on how they are finishing up. Hooray!
p.s. I am not trying to look tough in the pic, I just felt weird smiling at my auto timer and wanted to highlight the man size scale of the piece, and look tough.
Josh Aster and Greg's shop is open in NYC

I am stoked on the paintings of Josh Aster as of late. They are really simply and elegantly complex and really bitchen to look at. He shows at Carl Berg so if you visit http://www.carlberggallery.com/ you can see more of his really nice paintings. YES!!
Also for friends, Greg's shop opened in New York in the lower east side. Assembly (www.assemblynewyork.com which has a sweet new medievilish icon). He has such a ridiculous sense of what things are rad so I'm sure he will do really well. I am proud of my buddy.
