Our next salon

Brothers and sisters, our next salon is afoot. This Saturday, January 17th from 7ish to 11ish, at brother Billy's awesome vintage shop, Denim Blue (located at 18320 Beach Blvd. in Huntington Beach 92648). The night will be very special and include free soul food from Memphis Bar, and good company, community, and conversation. This months line up is a painter whom I really like, Joshua Aster, who will show and talk about his new work, my uncle David Callis, v.p. of Swinerton Builders , will talk about his companies long time green building commitment, the white wonder of the soul world, Justin Grennan will rock us out, and Chris has a special surprise reader in store. So if you have lame plans that cost $$$, ditch them for a free, radical night. Bring friends. We even welcome your stinky friends.

...and I said " It Is FInished".

Well dudes, for my friends and family who are so freaking sick of hearing about and looking at the body of work that is for my new painting show entitled "Are You Ready To Testify?", it is completed. The show will take place at Taylor de Cordoba gallery in Los Angeles beginning saturday night the 10th through Feb. 6th (the night of Seonna Hong's awesome group show that I am lucky to have been invited to be in). I have fully exercised the ideas behind this work and I feel really good about what came out. A combination of story telling, celebrating, and good ol' fashion testifyin', and a playing out of data=picture potental systems exploration. These paintings are making me smile. As much as they have to with a certain personal content and biography I really hope they come through as the historical nod to my painting fore-mothers and fore-fathers as I intend them to be. I really like the idea of carriying a new, personal trail off of what so many awesome painters and thinkers before me had blazed up untill my departure point. I think of these pieces as a continuation of a lineage of sorts, vs. being some kind of lame "originality" or "expressive" attempt on my part.
Come out and see the show. I hung it yesterday and it is SINGIIIIING.

the third and final manifestation of this painting (look back 7ish posts for the first two).

New baby and a finished art show

Hello friends. Sorry for the complete crapped out blog lately. I have been finishing up my show which is FINIIIIIIIIIIISHED. I will put up images later but first I want to introduce Ryan or Tammy junior. We didn't find out which but we got sweet pictures of the pea in the pod. We are stoked.

Statement...

The work I have been making for the last couple of years is primarily about conceptual and pictoral exploration. Following rabbit holes of ideas, visual stimuli, process, pictoral structure, and what it looks like when I trace my time by having said traced time manifested visually or situationally. My work varies with each new smaller project that I am working on but the above umbrella is how I work. My overall artistic project is less about a rigid research of a few well articulated ideas, and much more about “maybes” and “what ifs”. Theology, philosophy, freedom, and the like, have metaphors that lie dormant waiting to be discovered and brought to light, and art making is where I find these most often.
