CONGRATULATIONS TO ERIC AND HEATHER>>>>>>>>>

Direction for January

So I did this show with Mike Hernandez at the old Black Boxx loft in '06 where all of my paintings connected to create this grand narrative. It was really fun because it brought all of my paintings into this awesome harmonious almost cinematic or time line type of conversation jam. So the good Lord gave me a crack through this week with a combo of a new metaphoric protagonist, and a way to use a whole body of abstract work into another conversation via the adventures of my new protagonist and those other pilgrims he encounters .
Fuck yeah. Good fun. Like an exquisite corpse.
My diver has been doing solo pieces too, but I like the connecting paintings. Fun in the sun.
David Pagel dropped me an Oscar Wilde quote once,(Eric and my few friends who've heard me use this way too many times, I apologize) that he who ends up with the most people around the campfire wins. I'm going to tell a new story for my show in January. I'm pretty stoked on my new story. I like stories. Stories.......................ablksjdfoiejfeflojwkkkkkkkkkkkk

WOOOOOOW it's been awhile ol' girl

So it's been awhile blogosphere. Sharon's b-day party saw Earl and Jeremy bbq-ing and Jim and Will playing country and bluegrass songs, as you can see, into the night. Songs that literally brought tears to my eyes when combined with the swelling feeling of friends, family, experiences, community, etc. What an evening. Every song I called out they knew. Play Pancho and Lefty, play the Ballad of the Grevious Angel, and so on I went. I finally stumped them on Rex's Blues by Guy Clark because Will knew the music but not all of the lyrics. A YES night.

#91.1 Noah and the Whale - Episode 1

This situation makes me happy. Noah and the Whale makes me happy. La Blogotheque makes me happy.

David Bazan - The Man in Me

So to go along with my recent Dylan fixation of mas genius and beauty, here is a fucking foxy rendition by one of my favorite singer men of the here and mostly now.

A new balanced jam. The new paintings that I am working on are way more muted in color. Almost on a Morandi trip. This is the last of the super color pieces for the time being so I blew it out.

So I went sort of figurative for a minute and got into the idea of trying to use this image from this cover. I got amped on the image because I've been feeling "revelations" lately. Whether big or small I like to have a revelation reveal itself. I'm also reading through the book of Revelation right now. Plus with exploring the process of what I do revelation is a key, awesome result and ingredient. To have moments or ideas revealed completely outside of ones self is very beautiful and humbling. I like that the bonus of the image is that not only can it be ol' St. Pete opening up the pearly gates of ideas, insight, etc. but in this day and age of celebrity, "fabulousness" worship, it has a getting let into a club feel. Maybe in '08 revelation happens v.i.p. style. Plus it's funny that a loaded and stimulating image for me comes from the ultimate snack stand of ideas and an issue on religion. Not ironic, but funny circuit completion.
The paintings themselves, well everything that glitters can't be gold, but I like aspects of them.
I might have exercised this image.
Good surf today. Got barreled. I'm going to my studio.

Poorly photographed new 6' x 4'.
It's called "it's o.k. dude, o.k.?" It's to do with helping a buddy during the time I was starting this. It's also a convincing of myself.
The other photograph is of a Tom Friedman piece. I have a Phaidon comprehensive book on him and he had slipped my mind lately, but it was great to return to his work and words. He's right up my monastic, playful alley. This piece is a bunch of pencils cut and assembled to make one huge pencil whose tip touches and floor and is suspended from monofillament.

Greenough at Shelter

A little late but last weekend Tammy, Eric, Danny and I biked to Shelter surf shop to watch this awesome, innovative film screened in the parking lot complete with killer food, free beer, live band, and warm weather. George Greenough really did a killer job. I know it's vogue to feign retro surf guy these days, but this film didn't feel nostalgic watching it some 30 plus years later. It felt and looked really good.
Earl and I had surfed head high waves that morning which made it that much sweeter to watch a surf film. Shelter is a beautiful surf shop that is super unique, a bit like Mollusk in spirit, but it's own creature for sure. The film was really run to watch and the soundtrack was killer which is evident by the amount I have been hearing my local surf shop and around lately. Thanks Eric for the heads up. It was a lot of fun.

I've been really into this idea of composing and constructing my pictoral explorations into symmetrical formations and it has become really fun and fruitful. A new challenge. I like the idea of them becoming a "truth" in and of themselves. A truth in that it is what it is and it is congruent and it has a consistency and can be checked against itself. Even if the symmetry is a little wonky, it is still a truth in it's imperfection. I like making little true-isms. It feels good to the soul and as I keep finishing these moments of abstract truths I visually like them a lot. They are subtle little truths like college ruled paper or the temperature setting on an electric blanket. Subtle, yet nice to have in the world.
In other news wounded lion is playing on friday night at High Energy Constructs in Chinatown. They are an awesome band worthy of an evening of your time.
Also the surfing was great this last week suckas so if you missed the 3ft. overhead days, you missed out.
